Perhaps one of the most infamous places on Long Island, Montauk is located at the east most point of Long Island, and is home to the infamous Montauk Lighthouse. The town of Montauk place an integral role in the history of Long Island, and maintains much of its small town charm today – although there are over 45 hotels in Montauk, and dozens of restaurants, none of them are chains – they’re all locally owned businesses. Montauk Point Light was New York’s first lighthouse, and is still actively operated today, as well as home to a heritage museum. There are half a dozen state parks in Montauk, as well as many beaches – making it a perfect vacationing spot for travelers looking for a scenic, low key get away.
